Description

Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road (E12) is a critical component of Abu Dhabi 2030, serving as a crucial link to neighboring communities and significant destinations. Classified as a Wetland Parkway, it contributes to the overarching objective of creating a “garden on the shores of the gulf.”

The landscape design, with a particular emphasis on the planting scheme, draws inspiration from the surrounding landscapes, incorporating natural elements and establishing a cohesive theme that spans the entire length of the highway. Mounds and berms are thoughtfully integrated into the design to address highway noise and manage sand movement. The concept design prioritizes the use of native plants and trees to ensure minimal maintenance and low water demand. Furthermore, the design process focuses on preserving open views to the mangroves, enhancing the overall experience for drivers.

With a commitment to nature-based solutions, the project explores the integration of natural processes in delivering infrastructure, services, and comprehensive solutions to effectively tackle the challenges of urban resilience in a rapidly evolving urban environment.
